And that could very well happen, but at long last Marveaux put in a half-decent performance in a Newcastle United shirt last night, and his career COULD up and running.
I'm not saying the Frenchman outclassed Davide Santon or Demba Ba, but Marveaux impressed many in last night’s 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at St James’s Park.
It was only the midfielder’s second Premier League start of the season after his first campaign at the club was a nightmare.
Even the best of them - Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutiérrez - had that "first season transformation syndrome" and perhaps Marveaux is starting to settle.
Against Wigan, Marveaux was handed the ball-winning position James Perch usually takes up, and he looked comfortable -although Wigan were a man light after 12 minutes and their midfield was like a rabbit's hind leg.
Yohan Cabaye is out for the next two months with a groin injury, there’s now an opportunity for the 26-year-old to enjoy a run of games.
One thing to his credit, he knows this is just the start, and he was honest enough to say so.
Sylvain Marveaux: “I think it was good.
“I haven’t played a lot of games in the Premier League, and I was just waiting for my time.
“I was in a good position on the pitch – my favourite – and I just tried to play my game.
“But it was just one game. We’ll see now. I’m just looking forward to the next game.
“I was fit all season, but I was waiting for my time. I hope I will be able to play the next game against Fulham as well.
“I think it’s a good win for us.
“We’ve worked hard as a team. Everything went well for us – the first goal and the red card made everything easier for us.
“I think it was very important to win. We were in a tough position.
“The fans were expecting us to win. I think we deserved what we got.”
