... stay at Upton Park has been vindicated following the Hammers’ return to the Premier League.

Sam Allardyce’s men regained top flight football at the first attempt after a nervy 2-1 win over Blackpool in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

The east London club rejected a £2.5 million bid from Newcastle for the former England under-21 international last season.

And, if the truth was known, he was set to join the Magpies - but Fat Sam knocked back the offer and Alan Pardew wouldn't go any higher.

Tomkins: “We’ve been promoted and I’m not going to turn back on that.

"It goes to prove I was right to stay."

The defender's contract was due to run out this summer but he has signed a four-year extension after Allardyce claimed it would have been "suicidal" to let Tomkins leave the club.

Ahhhh well. Let him enjoy his one season in the Premiership before ending up back in the Championship.

While we enjoy our European campaign!
