Abeid will make his first Newcastle United appearance in almost a year at Boundary Park tonight.
The midfielder spent last season on loan at Panathinaikos, who are looking to take him back to the Greek capital.
Alan Pardew: “Mehdi did particularly well at Panathinaikos, and it’s only fair I look at him.
“I didn’t get to see him play for them, but it looks like he’s progressed. He’s a lot stronger.
“He’s more experienced, and we’ll see him in the Oldham game.”
Abeid, signed from Lens in the summer of 2011, struggled to make an impression on the first team in his first two seasons at St James’s Park.
He helped Panathinaikos win the Greek Cup and qualify for the Champions League.
