It was a pulsating game and a fabulous victory for the Heed with a 3-1 win and 4-2 aggregate win against Grimsby Town that takes them to Wembley in two weeks, a May 18 date with Cambridge United.
It was a marvelous occasion, and IF Gateshead do make it into the Football League, they should ask the FA to arrange their home fixtures around Newcastle United's.
If The Heed could play home games when The Toon are away, it could be of benefit to both parties.
The Newcastle fans are far from happy with life under the Puppet Master (Mike Ashley) and his Bitch (Alan Pardew) and what better release than a visit over the Tyne when fixtures don't clash.
The Nags Head was full to bursting before the game and I recognised at least 50 Toon fans amongst them, and I'm sure there was a lot more I didn't know.
What we saw yesterday was a team that fought for their lives. No egos, nobody wanting to go on strike, no manager booed every time he stepped outside of the dugout, just a set of players who rose to the occasion and made the North-East proud.
Ben Clark today has paid tribute to theGateshead fans and the North-East football family (Toon and Mackems) for roaring them to Wembley.
The skipper felt they were the driving force behind the club's bid for a day out in the capital.
Clark told Chronicle: "We want to thank every one of them.
"It means so much to us.
"Hopefully we can now take a lot more to Wembley with us now.
"We are going to Wembley to win - not for the day out.
"We want to win and want to get to the Football League.
"It is unbelievable.
"I think we deserve it.
"We were the third best team in the Conference this year and we had to work for that.
"Grimsby made it really difficult for us.
"They have the big lad up front and they were a handful.
"But we stuck together.
"We have great team belief and we are just delighted to get over the finish line."
