He wanted to "rest" Andy Carroll but brought him on 58 minutes into the game when we were 2-0 down.
So why not start the game with the big guns and TRY and win the match, rather than have 33,000 paying customers watch the reserves take a hammering from a side who actually set out to WIN the game?
If the competition is good enough for mighty Arsenal, why the hell does Hughton give it - AND THE FANS - no respect?
I remember interviewing Kevin Keegan on a trip to Bari for an Anglo-Italian fixture and I asked him "could we do without this competition?"
He replied: "It was not my choice to enter the Anglo-Italian, but we are in it, and I'm sure as hell gonna try and win it".
So what does the future hold under Hughton? He has ambitions to keep us in the Premiership, sure enough, a competition we are a million miles away from winning - but has no ambitions for cup competitions.
The majority of us have not seen us win a cup in our lifetime ... and this pathetic attitude is not going to change a thing!
Yes we want to beat the Mackems ... but that is three points ... you don't get any more for beating the Scum!
If we had turned over Arsenal last night we would have been two steps from Wembley.
Hughton has his backers amongst the Toon Army, granted, but the tide could be turning and defeat on Sunday would see the biggest tusunami seen at St James' Park since the bastards beat us under Ruud Gullit.
