A combination of injuries and the form of Kieron Dyer and Jermaine Jenas have restricted Hugo to just six Premiership starts and although he still sees his future at St James’ Park he is keen to play first team football next season.
"I have been thinking about a move but have not talked to my agent about it," he told a Portuguese radio station.
"I have spoken to the club directors and they know I am happy to have signed for Newcastle but that I am not happy with the present situation.
"I will not negotiate to leave Newcastle because I want to stay. I would like to be more useful next season.
"I could change scenery, perhaps for a year, but remain a Newcastle player."
