Kevin Mbabu says he now knows what is required to forge a successful career at Newcastle United.
Two-and-a-half years after joining from Servette, the then-20-year-old is back on the scene.
After suffering a succession of leg muscle injuries. He played just 39 more minutes of senior football, most of them in the FA Cup.
Dropping down a division might have helped his development but instead manager Rafael Benitez chose to loan him out to Young Boys in his native Switzerland.
Mbabu told the Berner Zeitung he wants to use it as a learning experience, rather than the end of his Magpies career.
“By now I know exactly what it takes,” he said. “It is important to complete a season without injury.
“In the beginning it was not easy without family and friends in a country where you do not understand the language.
“But when I got used to the intense training I learned a lot, I have no regrets.”
