DeAndre Yedlin has told Sports Illustrated that he knew that he was going to be in for a tough time at Tottenham Hotspur as soon as he signed.
Yedlin was brought to White Hart Lane back in 2015, after impressing in MLS with Seattle Sounders.
There was a great deal of excitement around the American’s arrival at Spurs.
But Yedlin says that he immediately recognised he was making a huge step up.
“I knew it was going to be a tough time when I got there and saw the level. I just tried to make the best out of the situation,” he said.
In the end, Yedlin’s time at Tottenham did not work out - with the youngster making a minimal impact for the Lilywhites.
Yedlin played just one match for Spurs’ first-team, and was sold to Newcastle United last summer.
Since making the switch to St. James’ Park, the American international has begun to show his promise again.
Yedlin has played an important role at Newcastle have earned promotion back to the Premier League this season, with the full-back looking far more comfortable in English football now.
