Ian Wright believes that Newcastle United could suffer relegation from the Premier League this season if reports of a collapsed takeover mean they can’t spend the rest of the January transfer window.
The Magpies fans have been crying out for some improvements to their squad, but are yet to see any new arrivals at St James’ Park this month.
They are currently 15th in the league table, but there are serious relegation concerns as they are just three points above the drop zone.
Sky Sports have reported that current Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has walked away from takeover negotiations with Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners over the takeover of the club.
Pundit Wright believes that with no plan in place for a takeover in the near future it could have a negative impact on the pitch.
He was asked to name the three likely relegation teams from the top flight at the end of the season and included Newcastle based on the latest takeover development.
“I feel if they do not get that takeover I’m sorry to say I think Newcastle might go,” Wright said on Sky Sports’ television programme The Debate Show on Tuesday night.
