Jose Enrique will not commit his future to Newcastle United until "the club is safe".
The Spaniard had declared that he will only open talks on his future once Premier League survival has been secured at St James’ Park next season.
But both Liverpool and AC Milan have been linked with the player and Alan Pardew (just as he did with Andy Carroll) has said he thinks the player will stay on Tyneside.
How can we forget the Pardew quotes in January: "Spurs have no chance of signing Carroll because he is staying at this club - end of story!" and "Mike Ashley has told me Carroll is going nowhere".
Alan Pardew: “There is no update at the moment.
“Jose Enrique’s a little bit different because he wants to make sure we’re safe before he opens negotiations.
“Once we’re safe, Jose said he wanted to talk.
“We’re hoping to do that before the end of the season.
“We’ll all sit down and try to iron out issues with players in terms of contracts, and hopefully keep our best players at this football club. That’s what we want to do.”
