The Chronicle has asked John Barnwell what is going wrong at Newcastle United. Why? God only knows. He has managed Wolves, Walsall and Peterborough ... and won bugger all ... but he gives advice and says that changing the manager regular is not the answer.
Barnwell: "Historically clubs that change their managers regularly don't achieve the same level of success to those who stick with them. Newcastle is not an easy place to manage for anybody but the rewards are there if managers do well. The desire to put trophies on the table has never been so high, which makes it totally different to other areas.
"Managing in Newcastle is different to most places because of the volume of support. The fans are among the best in the country. It is a unique place - the fans actually applaud opposing teams that have won well in their own stadium, which is unusual. Every Premiership job brings intensity but things are more specific in Newcastle because the aim is to bring something to the trophy cabinet, which has not happened for so long."
Nothing new there then, certainly nothing we haven't heard a million times before.
