I'm pleased with our performance - Sir Bobby

Sir Bobby

“I don't know what's going to happen, but at the moment, it looks as though positions one, two and three are sealed but there is a fourth spot. Liverpool will be contending, so will we.

“I would say there is that one spot and it's there, but it will take four-and-a-half months of football to claim it.

"Gerard will be happier with a point than I am but I'm pleased with our performance.

"Unfortunately, we have made a calamitous error for their goal - it was a real gimme, similar to the one at Wolves last week.

"You have to respect Liverpool. Without Owen and Kewell, they came to defend more than usual and nearly got away with it.

"But attacking-wise, we were very good. I wanted the game to go on for another 15 minutes and Gerard couldn't wait for it to end.

"Kieron Dyer had a better game today. He was tired - more tired than he thought he would be - at Wolves.

"And Laurent Robert clearly benefited from not playing last Saturday. He was as fresh as a daisy and was a deserved man-of-the-match.

"All in all, it was a great game of football.”

Gerard Houllier

“We've got to face reality, there's no point dreaming, those three have run away with it.

“But the competition is still open and you never know in football. I was told there was one Christmas when Liverpool were below the 10th position and won the title.

“At the moment, we're struggling with personnel. Michael (Owen) and Harry (Kewell) represent or 60 per cent of the goals we score.

“Today we haven't had the quality, but sometimes when you're struggling, you just need to be tight and strong in your mind, and I thought today was a good performance really.

“We've played better games and not got anything out of those games.”
