He claims Mike Ashley is ready to sanction several summer signings as part of a substantial re-shaping of the Newcastle United squad in the close season.
Club secretary Lee Charnley, who has been a front line presence in Newcastle matters since Derek Llambias left last year, appears to be a front-runner for a prominent role at the club. United are looking to appoint a managing director this summer.
Assistant boss John Carver: “It was great to see the owner here and show his support. Shows he is right behind us and supported us.”
But Ashley has had a lot of business issues to deal with in the north-east this last week, and I wouldn't read too much into him showing his face at St James' Park.
He has had pressing business moving his Sports Direct shop from the Eldon Square to next to Fenwicks and he was on hand to oversee the transfer.
Plus, he had made it known he is selling the land at the back of the Gallowgate End, and there were issues to sort out.
So ... seeing him make his first appearance of the season at SJP for the Palace game (and again last night) is more to do with finance than any love of watching our beloved Newcastle.
