... he has scored ten goals from right-back for Rangers in Scotland's second tier against such part-time clubs as Queen of the South and Alloa Athletic.
By the way, those two clubs played each other in the Scottish Championship and the crowd was less than 600, showing how desperate that league is!
I loved the quote from the Daily Record this week "James Tavernier couldn’t have done much more to catch the eye at Newcastle United", when he was a million miles out of his depth in the Premier League.
How BAD is Scottish football these days?
Well, England, Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland and Wales will all be playing in France next summer - Scotland won't!
Need I say more?
No matter what the Daily Record reports, Tavernier NEVER impressed at St James' Park and some of appearances are the most forgettable by ANY Toon player past or present.
He knocked on the door of Alan Pardew and asked to go out on loan to prove himself, but after stint at Gateshead ,Carlisle, Sheff Wed, MK Dons, Shrewsbury and Rotherham, he never returned to Newcastle any better.
He says he never got a real chance with the Magpies, but he never did anything to deserve it.
He left Newcastle and in the summer of 2013 he signed for Wigan, who DID give him a chance, but after 11 games they moved him on.
Is he any better at Glasgow Rangers?
Some suggest he is starting to catch the eye from both a defensive and attacking point of view having scored TEN goals from right-back with Rangers heading back the SPL.
Speaking about life at Rangers, Tavernier said: “I’m just happy that I’ve found stability and a love of football all over again. I’m thriving on it.
“You can’t soak it up quickly enough just how big this club is and the way the fans respond to you in the streets.”
A better player ... or a crap league he is playing in?
You tell me. Kevnumad@fsmail.net.
