Is Shearer Ready For The Premiership?

Shearer, I can confirm, was gutted when Mike Ashley said the former England skipper was "not experienced enough for the Newcastle job" back in January and gave the job to Kevin Keegan.

Shearer knows, if he wants to be manager at St James' Park under Ashley he will have to earn his spurs elsewhere.

And what better place than Ewood Park?

Shearer has done a lot of talking about his first steps in management, even suggesting he would like the England job. So let's hear less of the mouth and see more action, and pergaps see exactly what he is capable of.

Since it was confirmed that Mark Hughes was leaving the Lancashire side for Manchester City, Rovers fans have been shocked that Sam Allardyce and Steve McClaren are in the race for the job.

There have been calls for Big Al to go back to the club where he won the Premiership title.

On the BBC's 606 Forum: "Shearer would quickly heal the blow that Hughes has landed to Rovers.

"More than having our manager stolen I feel a loss of pride in a way that our manager was so easily taken away from us.

"Shearer would soften the bad news and show that we are still capable of getting the big names in football.

"I have my 1995 blue and white tinted specs on and right now he's the only name I want."

Another Rovers fan said: "He'd be given time by the fans, he's well respected within the game and needs a platform to launch his managerial career.

"He'll have everyone behind him from the start, which the likes of Allardyce and McClaren wouldn't."

Shearer played for Blackburn from 1992 to 1996 after signing under manager Kenny Dalglish for £3.3m from Southampton.

He made 138 appearances, scoring 112 goals.
