The Northern Ireland-born Republic of Ireland international was included in the team which started Saturday's 2-1 Premier League defeat at Everton, but did not wear the same shirt as the rest of his team-mates.
The Black Cats have insisted the decision was McClean's alone.
A statement said: "As a club, SAFC wholeheartedly supports the Remembrance commemorations. It was James' personal choice not to wear a shirt on this occasion."
The 23-year-old apparently has a problem with the British ... but is happy to come to the England to pick up money in the English Premiership.

So - if the man is so PROUD of his Irish roots - why doesn't the Irishman return to where he came from and play for Shamrock Rovers?
I'm sure they would appreciate his ANTI-BRITISH stance.
