Cardiff have a play-off semi-final dates with Leicester City, while Blackpool and Nottingham Forest meet in the other semi.
The Wembley final is on May 22.
Ironically, Cardiff were the only side among the play-off quartet that Newcastle did the double over this season.
Chris Hughton: “If you went on who the better teams are – and I suppose the league position doesn’t lie – then Forest have been the best side all season.
“But Cardiff are probably the ones that stick out to me as a team.
“To gain promotion from League One and then to stay – not only for this period but for the bulk of the season – in the play-off positions has been a great achievement,” he said of Leicester’s fifth-place finish.
“Are they capable of going one more division?
“They’ve proved that this season by some of the results they’ve had and we had two very tough games against them.
“You thought Blackpool might have fallen away from it but they’ve come strong again at the right time.”
The bookies have Cardiff and Forest at 5/2 for promotion; Leicester are 3/1 and Blackpool 4/1.
