The England World Cup winner will undergo surgery after breaking his hip in a fall at his home, according to reports.
The 76-year-old fell down stairs in his home in Northumberland and had to crawl to the phone to call for help.
His son John told the Daily Mirror: "Dad's going to have an operation on Friday to sort his hip out.
"The stairs in his house are a bit tricky and awkward and he basically fell down them on Monday night.
"It could have been a lot worse because my mum was out of the house and he was on his own.
"Luckily he managed to crawl to the phone and rang me. When I got round to the house he was sitting in his chair watching telly.
"Because of his age they want to operate on him, give him a new hip. We've all been worrying but he's going to be fine."
