Newcastle United have held talks with Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian about a possible friendly game this summer.
United sources have indicated the game could take place next month at Tynecastle with the Magpies now putting the final touches to their pre-season fixture list.
If the game does go ahead it would see a reunion in the technical area with former United coach Ian Cathro and Rafa Benitez , with the Scot now in charge of Hearts.
Cathro left Newcastle in December to take the hot seat and guided the Jambos to a fifth-place finish.
United are expected to be heading to Ireland for a pre-season training camp in the middle of next month before friendly games away to Preston North End on July 22 (3pm) and another road trip to Bradford City four days later for a 7.30pm kick off.
Further games are set to be announced soon with Newcastle playing a home friendly game in early August.
Serie A side Hellas Verona, managed by another ex-Toon coach Fabio Pecchia, have been mooted as possible opponents for the game at St James’ Park .
