According to several reports in Italy, Janmaat is seen by the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli as a chance to add a solid defender at a bargain price. The ex-Feyenoord defender could be available for as little as £5.5 million this summer.
It is no secret that Janmaat is looking for the exit door with his agent reportedly offering his services to attract interest from around Europe. The defender is keen to secure his international future which would be put at risk playing in the second tier of English football.
Holland manager Danny Blind confirmed Janmaat’s desire to leave in March saying “He wanted to be with the Oranje (Netherlands squad) as he was dying to be in the spotlight, to attract another club in case Newcastle United are actually relegated.”
Newcastle will be keen to offload Janmaat should a suitable offer come in for the defender with new manager Rafael Benitez keen to use any funds to rebuild his squad for a promotion challenge. Janmaat is also one of the biggest wage earners netting almost £60,000 a week and the club will be keen to reduce the wage structure to ease the financial burden following relegation.
Janmaat started thirty-two games for Newcastle this season scoring two goals and contributing four assists. In 2015, Janmaat won the North East player of the year award following an impressive debut season in the Premier League.
