Newcastle United have failed to win any of their last nine matches in the Premier League.
Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport Score, which was broadcast on 16th December, that any Newcastle United fans calling for Rafael Benitez to be sacked are ‘ridiculous’.
Newcastle have gone through a run of nine games without a victory, and slide into the thick of the Premier League’s relegation battle.
Newcastle lost 1-0 against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium today, and there have been murmurings of discontent at St. James’ Park.
While most Newcastle fans realise the limitations imposed on Rafael Benitez with the Tynesiders, there has been some questioning of the Spanish boss from supporters in recent weeks.
But Jenas has moved to defend Benitez, and has claimed that no manager would be doing any better with the squad which Newcastle possess.
“Calling for Benitez’s head is ridiculous,” Jenas said before the game.
‘It’s a Championship side that they’ve got there. It’s remarkable that they’re in a position they’re in and not already bottom or not in the relegation zone. You can chant for a new manager, but if he comes in he’s not going to do a better job than Rafa.”
Newcastle’s defeat to Arsenal has caused them to slip into the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The Magpies have collected just 15 points from their first 18 top flight fixtures, and there is a realisation that an injection is needed in the January transfer window, if they are to stay up.
