Everyone knows about Jackie Milburn's goalscoring record now that Alan Shearer is about to break it. But if you read about the Geordie legend in his book you see that times have not changed that much since the late 1940s. The money has - but the tapping up at England meetings certainly hasn't.

Souness blamed the England players trying to tempt him away, but many Toon fans still believe it was the attitude of the manager that started the problem in the first place.
