Newcastle United are highly interested in signing Nicolai Jorgensen from Feyenoord.
Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport, during their live coverage of Newcastle United’s match against Chelsea, that it doesn’t look good for the Magpies in their pursuit of Nicolai Jorgensen.
Newcastle have been attempting to sign Jorgensen over the past week, with Rafael Benitez targeting the striker.
However, Jorgensen started up-front in Feyenoord’s match against Ado Den Haag earlier today, despite the speculation.
And Jenas feels that the fact Jorgensen was picked can only be considered bad news for Newcastle.
“It doesn’t look good from both points of view,” Jenas said. “If the player was desperate to make the move, I doubt he would have started in this game and it also gives you an example of how far down the line the conversations are, as if Feyenoord are actually interested then they wouldn’t have wanted to risk any injury.
“It doesn’t look like good news for Newcastle right now, but in January things can change quickly.”
Newcastle are desperate for a striker, as they have struggled for goals all season.
Joselu and Dwight Gayle have not found the back of the net with any frequency, and Newcastle’s attacking problems were again evident during their match against Chelsea earlier today.
The Magpies were knocked out of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte’s side running out 3-0 winners in the contest.
Newcastle have only been able to make one signing so far this month, bringing in Kenedy from Chelsea on loan.
