Rangers Walter Smith told the media his star player was "not for sale", but we reported last Wednesday that the club's defeat in the Champions League would see the player move on.
However ... we hoped it would be to St James' Park ... NOT Villa Park.
We all know how highly Keegan rates Carlos Cuellar, so why didn't Mike Ashley produce the cash?
Cuellar is discusing a move to Aston Villa after the Premier League club triggered a 10million euros (£7.8million) release clause in his contract.
Though Gers boss Smith is upset by the centre-half's decision to move on, he is eager to use the money from Cuellar's sale to improve his squad.
Smith: "This has come as a surprise and I am disappointed.
"Carlos Cuellar has been a great player for the football club and inevitably there has been speculation about him playing in the Premiership.
"The club has received a substantial uplift in fee and we will now reinvest in the team."
