We are often reminded by the London media that Keegan had not seen a "live match" for three years, and "football has moved on in the last three years" ... and his interest in Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia will add fuel to the flames.
Hyypia had a week trial at St James' Park during Keegan's last reign at the club, and he was thought not to be good enough for the Premiership ... and how wrong Mr Keegan was!
However, the Finnish defender is coming towards the end of his contract at Anfield, and it is widely thought that at 34 he will not be offered another one.
Keegan is looking to add an experienced Premier League centre-half to his squad, and reports suggest he could be set to pay £1m to take Hyppia to St James's Park during this month's transfer window.
Hyypia, however, wants to remain on Merseyside.
