Keegan Won't 'Feed The Bear'!
I remember back in 1992 on a trip back from Bari in the Anglo-Italian Cup he sat with us in an Italian airport and explained his plans for the future and gave us an exclusive ... why he thought Mick Quinn would not fit into his plans.
He has given us (NU Mad and the fanzines I have worked for) many exclusives over the years, but yesterday he would not open his mouth.
KK was at Newcastle Airport to see a Flybe aircraft named in his honour.
Having made the first signing of his new Newcastle United reign, Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez, we expected him to be bubbly and upbeat.
But he refused to be drawn on anything other than planes!
So ... if you are interested ... the Bombadier Q400 has a huge picture of Keegan from his playing days on the side next to the entrance.
It has wings and a little place where the pilot sits, and wheels for when it lands. (Hardly an "exclusive" I'm afraid)
Sadly, the bottle of champagne Keegan was given to spray over the aircraft had lost its fizz, and most stayed in the bottle.
Keegan: "I'm not used to spraying champagne".
Why the silence? Well that could be because the press men were probing about Ashley putting a price on the club, and transfer speculation.
And he was not going to "feed the bear".
