A broken ankle interrupted the Scotland international’s initial spell at Almondvale, and he has now decided that another shot at success at St James’ Park is his best short-term option.
"I'm going to stay and give it one last crack at Newcastle," Kerr told the Scottish Sun.
"I've six months left on my contract and I think I owe it to myself to try and force my way into the first team.
"It would be great to make it at Newcastle. I got my chance at the same time last season and ended up playing in the Champions League.
"The potential here is huge. But I only want to be here if I'm playing first-team games.
"I will be ready in the next few weeks and then I'll see exactly how well I'm going to get on at Newcastle."
Perhaps Hugo Viana could learn something from Kerr’s attitude.
