The Scottish midfielder’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but at the moment he is planning to join a first division club rather than accept Sir Bobby’s offer of a contract extension.
Kerr told the Wishaw Press: "My next decision is going to be a big one, the boss wants me to look at a new contract and has made it clear that he wants me to stay.
"But to be honest I have heard it all before and I know it's time to start playing every week. I don't think it's going to happen at Newcastle.
"There are five or six first division sides looking at me and I have had several offers which are very appealing."
The 22-year-old played ten times for United last season, but spent the early part of the current campaign on loan at Livingston before suffering a broken ankle.
