Gus Poyet insisted that the Sunderland 'Director Of Football' leave the Stadium of Shite because "I want to sign the players I want ... not what somebody else wants" and Sunderland's success since has said a lot about that decision.
Alan Pardew has never had the balls to question Ashley's call, but it is rumoured SOMEBODY has to take the shit for the sale of Yohan Cabaye (and no replacement).
It looked to be either Pardew or Kinnear to go ... although many fans would like to see the THREE of them leave by the exit door.
Will Pardew follow? Fingers crossed.
Just because Kinnear goes it won't change the feelings towards Pardew and Ashley!
Kinnear was brought in to the club by owner Mike Ashley and put in charge of transfer dealings, but we all knew he was simply there to be Ashley's mouth piece.
He had Tottenham connections - the club Ashley supports - and they were already mates.
He took up the post in June last year and immediately got on the wrong side of the Magpies' support with his inability to pronounce the names of several players correctly in a radio interview.
Kinnear pronounced Llambias 'Lambezi' and Cabaye 'Kebab', while Hatem Ben Arfa became 'Afra' during the infamous interview.
A club statement said tonight: "Newcastle United can confirm that Joe Kinnear has this evening resigned from his position as Director of Football with immediate effect.
"The club will be making no further comment."
Kinnear signed a three-year deal when he arrived at St James' Park, an appointment that came four years after he quit the top job through ill health.
At the time Llambias said: "The board are pleased to welcome Joe back to the club. Joe has many years of experience working within the game, and this experience will be of great benefit to the club in achieving our objectives over the coming seasons."
But after a week, Llamias walked.
At the end of the day - Kinnear has gone - but SO WHAT?
He didn't pick the team; he had nothing to do with that humiliation on Saturday; and nothing is going to change between now and the summer transfer window!
17 June 2013: Kinnear claims he has been appointed as Newcastle United's Director of Football in a controversial radio interview. Says the names of several of the club's key players wrong live on air.
18 June 2013: Newcastle United confirm Kinnear's appointment on a three-year deal.
19 June 2013: Derek Llambias resigns from his role as the club's managing director after the controversy surrounding Kinnear's appointment.
25 June 2013: Supporters hold meeting to discuss concerns over Kinnear's appointment at Newcastle. Kinnear was invited to decline the invitation, instead sending a close friend - Eddie McIntyre - who read out a statement on his behalf.
6 August 2013: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew gives credit to Kinnear for the loan signing of striker Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers.
31 August 2013: Fans publicly hit out at Kinnear for the lack of transfer activity after Loic Remy was the only player brought into the club during the summer
29 January 2014: Kinnear expresses his delight at the loan signing of Dutch forward Luuk de Jong from Borussia Monchengladbach.
29 January 2014: Newcastle confirm sale of star midfielder Yohan Cabaye to Paris St Germain, leading to more criticism of the club from fans.
3 February 2014: Newcastle confirm Kinnear has resigned from his role as Director of Football.
