But he admitted he warned his players that the Magpies had “nothing to lose” at half-time and showed dogged determination to fight back.
Klopp said after the game: “It was against a team that are fighting for their lives in the Premier League. Playing like we did in the first half is not too easy but the lads did really well.
“At 2-0 at half-time it was clear they had nothing to lose. A few things changed and we conceded two goals. We could have scored more.
“I don’t remember Newcastle having many shots, two shots - two goals. We had a few more chances
“I don’t know what I can say. We have to take a draw and carry on.”
Klopp said after the game it should have been a penalty for Liverpool when Daniel Sturridge was upended by Cheick Tiote.
He said: “It was a clear penalty, I don’t know why the referee didn’t use his whistle. I’m not angry, I think we were close.
“At half-time we knew about the situation but they scored the goal and then there were a few open gaps.
“Cisse is strong in the air, but the second one we should not have conceded. With 2-2 you are then far away from the win, but you have to work.
“When you have a 2-0 lead it doesn’t feel like you have won a point, you have lost two. We have to take it.”
