Goalkeeper Tim Krul and defender Davide Santon were both included in the Newcastle squad travelling to Lisbon for Thursday's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Benfica.
Krul, out for the last seven games due to an ankle injury, and Santon, sidelined for Saturday's 4-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at Manchester City by a thigh problem, featured in a 19-man party.
Two other players who sat out the City match, Cheick Tiote (hamstring) and Massadio Haidara (knee), were missing from the group, along with expected absentees Fabricio Coloccini (back), Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Mathieu Debuchy and Yoan Gouffran (both ineligible).
