They have a list of targets and are believed to be closing in on at least one of those to add to Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback, who have already joined the club this summer.
Hertha Berlin striker Pierre-Michel Lasaggo remains in their sights, despite claims over the weekend that United had dropped out of the race for the German Under-21 international.
Lasaggo spent last season on loan at Hamburg from Hertha Berlin, and bagged 13 goals in 22 games to save them from relegation.
The 22-year-old only has 12 months left on his Hertha contract, however, and the capital club’s general manager Michael Preetz admitted Newcastle are in a three-way fight to sign the youngster.
Preetz, who held talks with Lasaggo last week, said: “There will be a decision next week, and it is only about three clubs: Hertha, Hamburg and Newcastle.”
