Magpies skipper Jamaal Lascelles spoke to the Chronicle, and highlighted how he and his teammates have unconditional trust in their manager Rafa Benitez, and highlighted his experience of managing at the very highest level as a reason why he has garnered so much respect from the players.
Newcastle currently sit in second position in the Championship table, two points adrift of league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.
They are, however, seven points clear of third placed Leeds United, and currently look pretty much nailed on for an automatic promotion spot.
And the 23-year-old centre-back spoke to the Chronicle about how the squad has full faith in their manager, and how they have never panicked, despite having to endure challenging periods this season:
“We have had a few blips but we don’t panic. We know what type of a boss we have and what type of players we have here. We’re half way through the season and we are still playing good football. Rafa Benitez is a very experienced manager. He’s managed at the very top level so whatever he says we agree with and back him up. We’ll give our all."
Following tomorrow's game at Oxford United in the fourth round of the FA Cup, Benitez' men face a crucial run of fixtures, with four of their next six games in the Championship coming at St James' Park.
Then comes the big one - Brighton away, in a game that could prove to be a title decider.
