Newcastle United centre-back Jamaal Lascelles is reportedly on the verge of signing a new five-year contract with the club, suggesting Mike Ashley is ready to off-load him in January.
Let's be honest, despite the skipper putting in a great performance at Swansea, he is still FOURTH choice centre-back.
His reputation is growing, and if Ashley can get him an a long-term contract, the fee he will ask for him in January will rocket.
The 23-year-old still has three years left to run on his current deal at St James's Park, but it is understood that discussions over an extension have taken place over the last few weeks.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are confident that Lascelles will pen the extension "in the next few days", with the centre-back impressing in the opening weeks of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.
Head coach Rafael Benitez appointed Lascelles as captain of Newcastle following the club's relegation to the Championship, and the defender made 43 league appearances for the Magpies during their title-winning 2016-17 season.
Newcastle will look to win their third straight league match when they host Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
