According to reports from the Midlands this morning Newcastle United are seriously interested.
We covered this story earlier in the week, but McFadden's alleged attempts to squeeze another contract out of City seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
The 27-year-old cost Brum £6 million when he joined in January 2008, but they are not falling over themselves to offer him a new deal.
The report claims "Celtic are prepared to offer around £3m" ... when we know that is NOT the case.
The Scottish giants currently haven't a bowl to piss in, and like Newcastle, are looking at loan deals.
Newcastle certainly won't go as high as £3m for a player who has never been a regular goalscorer.
£1.5m is more the mark, but Brum are certain to knock that back unless a deal could be done with Andy Carroll (who they are interested in).
McFadden for Carroll? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING!
Newcastle are also keen on getting a couple of youngsters in on loan.
Spurs' Danny Rose - who scored a spectacular volley against Arsenal at the end of last season - and Manchester United's Tom Cleverley are key targets.
