Shearer is not manager - and we don't have a backer to finance the deal - so there wouldn't be an offer, would there.
But the striker is certainly interested.
Leeds United have told BBC Radio Leeds that Championship clubs are interested in striker Jermaine Beckford, but are yet to make firm bids.
The player's agent Nick Rubery believed two offers had been lodged but Leeds say only enquiries have been made.
Rubery claims troubled Newcastle United are an option for the 25-year-old.
"It wouldn't be true to say Newcastle have missed out on Jermaine because of what is going on there," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"There has been interest from other clubs and I would anticipate something happening soon, maybe in the next couple of weeks when the transfer market begins to start hotting up. I just hope its done soon, we'll miss him, Leeds want to sell him and its his agent's job is to get him a move now

"But it is certainly true Newcastle is still a seriously attractive option for Jermaine."
Beckford, who is out of contract at the end of the 2009/2010 season, scored 34 goals last year.
He was placed on the transfer list in May after failing to agree new terms with the club.
