Pre-season games are rarely worth the admittance money, but Leeds put up a spiritted display against the Toon, and to be honest ... deserved their fifteen minutes of fame.

Shola told the world this weekend, he and Demba Ba would terrorise the Premiership this coming season, but if this was anything to go by ... I think he was talking out of his arse.

Pardew's pre-season plans suffered a another setback and I think he knows - more than anyone else - we are DESPERATE for two quality strikers.

He has been promising us a "major signing or two" but time is ticking away and we have one game left before the mighty Arsenal come to St James' Park for some of the 'serious' stuff.

In a nut-shell - Fraser Forster looked SCOTTISH Premiership qualty (not ENGLISH); Danny Simpson looked as though he had been up all night with his new baby; Mike Williamson had a major 'off day'; and our strike force looked as weak as piss!

If Pardew doesn't know what Mike Ashley is up to, I think John Carver is just as distant from the Toon boss. He said yesterday: "The newspapers say the boss will rest Alan Smith to save him from the abuse he will get at Leeds, but I know Smith will play a big part at Elland Road on Sunday."

Smith wasn't even in the squad!

The hosts, fielding new signings Andy Lonergan and Michael Brown, made a fast start in their final friendly and burst into a fifth minute lead when Patrick Kisnorbo was in the right place to take advantage of a piece of poor handling from Newcastle's Fraser Forster.

Leeds' early dominance continued and they could have doubled their advantage when Max Gradel headed home, only for him to be denied by the offside flag.

Premier League Newcastle found their stride and levelled 10 minutes before the break when Steven Taylor nodded home a corner at the far post, amid claims of a foul on Brown.

It had been an encouraging performance by Simon Grayson's men and the Elland Road crowd had even more reason to cheer midway through the second period when substitute Lloyd Sam restored the home advantage by firing in from a tight angle.

It was a lacklustre performance from Newcastle, but they levelled for the second time in the game when Haris Vuckic powered past Lonergan with 14 minutes to go.

Leeds, though, were not to be denied a deserved victory as Billy Paynter struck home his first goal of the pre-season campaign to leave Pardew to reflect on a sub-standard display.
