So what would he have done to prevent it?
A tribute to former Newcastle United player and the club’s last manager to lift a trophy, Joe Harvey, has been unveiled at St James’ Park.
It seems his memorial plaque is all the more poignant at a time when the club seem further away from a trophy than ever.
Harvey, who won the FA Cup with the club as a player and the Fairs Cup as a manager in 1969, passed away in 1989 and a memorial has been unveiled at the stadium honouring his many achievements.
It was a rare show of integrity from the club to allow the plaque, which was funded by fans, to be erected on the stadium, even if it was long overdue.
It could still get worse for the Magpies as they can slip in to the bottom half of the table by the time we take on a resurgent Gunners at the Emirates on Monday night.
What would Joe Harvey have made of Alan Pardew's gutless Looney Toons?
The Magpies have already lost five games in a row for the first time in the Premier League era and could face their worst losing streak for more than 20 years if they are defeated.
The cameras will be on manager Alan Pardew as he returns to the technical area following his seven match stadium and dugout ban and so will the fans.
Let's see what he can bring to his team.
Shola Ameobi openly criticising Mike Ashley’s lack of investment in the team and the quality of the squad this week ... showing he has more BALLS than Pardew will ever have!
