The fact that Liverpool, like Newcastle, have never won the Premiership ... seems lost on Mr Shearer.
And let's get the record straight - Liverpool have only finished runners-up ONCE - Newcastle have finished runners-up TWICE.
At the end of the day the record books will look back on 2008/9 and record - Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and Sunderland won NOWT!
There are many ways of dressing up failure, and Rafa Benitez had better put on his best frock, because he has failed to do what he was employed to do ... get the better of Man Utd.

"Everton had a tough time when they stayed up on the last day a few season ago, but they have gone on from that and David Moyes has done an amazing job there. Liverpool are slightly different from Everton because of the expectations and they have gone on to greatness and will continue to do so.
"It is sad to see Newcastle and Sunderland at the wrong end of the table when Liverpool and Everton are up there challenging for medals.
"We believe we don't have a right to be up there, but we should be up there. But the fact of the matter is we are not for whatever reason, whether it is bad money spent on players or bad decisions being made.
"We are both in a completely different situation now to Liverpool and Everton. Will that change in the future? I hope so."
