He has made three appearances so far for the Seagulls.
The 19-year-old's month-long loan spell ends after the trip to Colchester a week on Monday but Brighton boss Gus Poyet is keen to keep him at the club.
Poyet: "It is something that is not only in our hands, it depends most on Newcastle. We have been in touch with them already.
"He's different. Some people will like it, some people won't.
"Some people will like him to do what he does 100 times per game. That is impossible and if he did everything perfectly in every game he wouldn't be at Brighton.
"We need to be very careful and realise that he is special. He's got different things, it is very difficult for the opposition to stop him, so let's use him as much as we can."
