The DR Congo international has started just 12 Premiership games since his £2.25million move from Colchester United almost three years ago but hopes that his chance will arrive this season.
"My aim for the new season is to play as much first team football as possible and that is what I'll be working towards," he told The Journal. "I'd be happy to play alongside anyone and I think I've played with all the strikers at the club in either the first team or for the reserves.
"I knew coming to Newcastle was going to be tough, but it is a challenge I'm enjoying and I think it will bring out the best in me.
"It is sometimes frustrating to be on the bench the whole time, but that doesn't mean I'm going to sulk and moan to the manager.
"I've been waiting for a while, the manager has told me to be patient and I just have to ensure that when the chance does come I prove how good I am."
He continued: "If things don't go well for me here in the future, I suppose I could go somewhere else and play more regularly in the first team.
"But at the moment I'm happy at Newcastle, the fans are brilliant and there is not a more exciting club to be at in England.
"I'm still young, I've got time on my side and, who knows, next season could be different. I've got faith in my ability."
Unfortunately for LuaLua he seems to have fallen well behind Shola Ameobi in Sir Bobby’s plans and his scheduled trip to the African Cup of Nations finals in January and February certainly won’t help his cause.
