... he’s NOT rejoining the club.
Ameobi is back on Tyneside as a free agent after leaving Gazianstep.
The former Newcastle striker cut short his spell at the Turkish second division club for “personal reasons”.
But the 33-year-old isn’t about to sign for United, despite the striker shortage at the club.
Ameobi is getting treatment at the club’s Benton training ground ahead of a possible move to a Major League Soccer club later this year.
John Carver, United’s caretaker manager, said: “He’s came in because he’s got a problem with his ankle.
“He knows the medical staff and knows me from way back.
“We’ve allowed him to come in and get some treatment.
“He’s actually talking about going to the MLS.
“If I can help him do that, then I will.”
