Iker Casillas is unlikely to join Rafael Benitez at Newcastle in the January transfer window according to a report in Spain.
It had been suggested that Benitez would try to temp the former Real Madrid goalkeeper to the Premier League from Porto, where he has fallen out-of-favour under Sergio Conceicao, who prefers Jose Sa between the posts.
However, Mundo Deportivo claims from sources at Newcastle that while Benitez has a great deal of respect for Casillas, he isn’t one of the players being considered to strengthen the squad next month.
Benitez has established a Spanish enclave at St James’ Park, with Ayoze Perez, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino and Jesus Gamez all on the books.
