Newcastle ease to victory at Norwich
Newcastle United took their tremendous home form on the road on Saturday as they cruised to a 3-0 victory at bottom-of-the-table Norwich City.
The beleaguered hosts had the best chance of the first half-hour when on 17 minutes Pukki latched onto a pass and went round Dubravka but was forced wide, Pukki’s pass found Dowell but he lifted he shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
By half-time Newcastle had the grasp of the game thanks to a brace from Joelinton. On 35 minutes the Brazilian, playing in a more advanced position than in recent weeks, struck a first-time finish into the top corner of the Norwich goal from a Longstaff pass.
Little more than five minutes later it was 2-0 as Murphy saw his shot blocked and Joelinton was on hand to tap home.
Having been involved in the build up to the second goal, five minutes after half-time the in-form Bruno Guimaraes made it 3-0. The midfielder took advantage of a poor pass out from former Magpies keeper Tim Krul, chipping the ball over the Dutchman into the goal.
Joelinton was hat-trick hunting but picked up an injury and was replaced by Almiron with 25 minutes to go. The final quarter of the game was played out without much goalmouth action as Norwich edge closer to their inevitable relegation and Newcastle moved into the top half of the Premier League.
