Martins Want Top 20
Glenn Roeder: "He has grown a lot. The experience of being expected to play a big game has made him realise how important his preparation between games is.
"That is very important because he knows he will be playing in the next game.
"What he has done so far, considering what a slow start he had, has been terrific, and I really feel there is a genuine chance he can hit 20 goals before the end of the season.
"That is his goal, he is desperate to do that. He really does want to finish his first season at Newcastle with 20 goals.
"He will then go away, have a nice break and come back on July 5 with Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi fit and a few other new players in the squad and work away in pre-season aiming for us to have a much better season - which we will have as long as we do not pick up those horrific injuries we have had for so long.
"I particularly remember, before both games earlier this season (Premiership and Carling Cup), Jose Mourinho singling out Oba Martins as a potential danger because of his pace, so he is a player Chelsea are very aware of.
"I am sure Jose will be looking to single him out again to make sure his defenders are very aware of the pace he has and his ability to score from half a chance.
"Ironically, all the chances we had at Portsmouth last week - and there were four decent chances - all fell to Oba and, unfortunately, he was not able to take any of them.
"I have said for a few weeks, we need to find other players in the team to share that responsibility with Oba.
"Certainly, when Michael and Shola are available, that will be a completely different scenario with that firepower."
