Former FC Porto star Steven Defour believes a move to Portugal will be perfect for Chancel Mbemba.
Mbemba’s former team-mate has also opened up over the reasons why the DR Congo international is keen to quit the Magpies.
Both Newcastle United and the Estádio do Dragão club are still in talks over the possible sale of the defender with Mbemba having his heart set on a switch to the Champions League-bound side.
Defour is a friend of Mbemba and played alongside him during their Anderlecht days before making the move to Burnley but also played for Porto earlier in his career.
Speaking to O Jogo about Mbemba’s potential transfer to Porto: “Mbemba is a tough defender in the individual marking, he is a fast player who has passing quality and who risks going out to play from the defence, he has a good aerial game, he has talent and qualities to impose on FC Porto.”
“I think he just could not stay at Newcastle, because they made him play right-back, a position that is not his. It was a shame.
“He is strong from the mental point of view and knows what he wants.
“He has the ability to impose himself in a club like FC Porto.”
