Newcastle attacker Miguel Almiron has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for October, with Magpies boss Eddie Howe scooping the Manager of the Month prize.
Newcastle played six Premier League games in October and won five of them, taking 16 points from a possible 18 and surging up the table as a result. That incredible form has even seen Pep Guardiola admit he considers Howe’s team to be a top four contender and even a title rival.
Almiron, who has previously blown hot and cold in the Premier League since arriving from MLS club Atlanta United in January 2019, was unstoppable throughout October.
The Paraguay international scored six goals during the month, starting off with a brace against Fulham and then finding the net in further wins over Brentford, Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa.
He is only the second Paraguayan to win a Premier League Player of the Month award after Roque Santa Cruz, who received the accolade in December 2007 during his time at Blackburn.
“It's lovely on a personal note and a very nice moment for me to win something like this as a player, but it's all about the team,” Almiron told NUFC TV.
"In order to get this award, I owe a lot. I'd like to thank all my teammates, the manager and also the fans as well because as you know, I've enjoyed their support and the confidence they've shown in me right from the start of my time here in Newcastle. It's very much down to all those people for this award, and I'm grateful to all of them for it."
It is the fifth time that Howe has been named Manager of the Month, moving him level with Carlo Ancelotti, Claudio Ranieri and Kevin Keegan on the all-time list, and clear of Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino, both of whom have won four.
Howe won three times at Bournemouth and once last season with Newcastle, having overseen an incredible run of form that steered the Magpies well away from relegation danger.
