Mixed Fortunes For Toon Loan Strikers

It was a positive week on the whole for Newcastle United’s loan stars as a host of Magpies continue their development away from St James’ Park.

Ivan Toney found the net for Wigan as they moved to the top of League One while Callum Williams helped Gateshead reach the first round of the FA Cup.

 

Ivan Toney scored his third goal of the season as Wigan ran out 3-0 winners over Southend to move to the top of the League One table.

The 21-year-old came on as a 64th minute substitute and on 88 minutes he added the Latics’ third goal.

Adam Armstrong started for Bolton as they finally registered their first Championship win of the season, beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.

The 20-year-old lasted 60 minutes before being replaced by Felipe Morais and is without a goal since August.

Young defender Stuart Findlay played the full 90 minutes as Kilmarnock earned an important 2-0 win at Partick Thistle.

Usually a centre-half Findlay was deployed at left-back for Killie as they got the vital win that lifted them off the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table.

Last month’s Bradford Player of the Mont, Alex Gillieadh played the whole 90 minutes but was largely ineffective as they were beaten 3-1 by Bury.

The Bantams remain in third place in the League One table but sit five points behind both Wigan and Shrewsbury who currently occupy the automatic promotion spots.

The young midfielder Sean Longstaff played 64 minutes and picked up a yellow card as Blackpool earned a 1-1 draw at Walsall.

The draw leaves them in 11th place in the League One table, two points adrift of the play-off places.

Callum Williams continued his impressive form for Gateshead as he won a decisive penalty in their 2-1 FA Cup win at Buxton.

The 20-year-old was felled by Buxton defender Curtis Morrison in the area before Jordan Burrow tucked home the resulting penalty.

The victory ensured the Heed reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in three seasons.

Matz Sels didn't play in Anderlecht's 4-3 win at Mechelen.
