Today Moncur says he hopes that Newcastle United stick with the strike force of Nile Ranger and Andy Carroll against Sheffield United ... rather than Chris Hughton having to justify his decision to bring in the Villa striker.
Last week the former Toon skipper said Harewood "didn't look interested" and the introduction of Ranger "changed the game" against Doncaster.
Moncur: “I think that Ranger and Carroll could well be the future for Newcastle in the striking department.
“You only had to see the ovation that Ranger got when he came off the bench against Doncaster to see exactly what the fans think of him.
“Make no doubts, he still has a long way to go and is still learning his trade and the same can be said of Carroll to some degree even though he continues to make huge strides ahead each week.
“But there is certainly a lot of ability to work with for Chris Hughton.
“It would be great to see that partnership start at Sheffield United but we’ll see what happens.
“Marlon is still an option for Chris, but I understand he has only come in as back-up.
“Chris will be keen to nurture the talent at his disposal and there is a lot of promise in the two lads."
