Moncur is a Newcastle embassador. He is paid to praise the 'rights' and say bugger all about the 'wrongs' ... and only two weeks ago the former Toon skipper made it known: "Alan Shearer is the ONLY man for the job as Newcastle manager".
That was not speculation ... not rumour ... but a QUOTE from the man himself.
Today he was asked about Chris Hughton's appointment, and he said a lot ... but didn't impress many with his waffle.
Yes Hughton has done well, but he should never be given the job full-time, and Bobby knows it!
Bob Moncur (talking to the Chronicle): “I’ve said all along Chris has done a good job.
“If we go through more change now it could be hard for anybody else to pick up the season.
“You would have to give them a honeymoon period, and by that time we could be too far adrift.
“If you go back to the beginning of the season, Chris has taken the team a long way.
“He had a bunch of players who were disenchanted and we had lost some big players like Bassong and Beye.
“We had been relegated and heads were down, but Chris managed to pick them up.
“He galvanised the side and that’s why they are where they are now. On that basis he’s done a good job.
“OK, the last four results have been poor, but other than that we’re still up there.
“We’re still in there fighting and it would have been very easy for this club to have gone the other way this season.
“You look at Ipswich and they have had a dreadful start – imagine if we had to recover from that, it would be tough.
“Once people start talking about giving you the job there always seems to be a bad run that follows – it’s almost like a curse.
“Chris is now just looking for a good performance on Saturday against Doncaster which could take them back to the top of the league.
“And if they do go back to the top of the pile going into November, I’m sure that’s a position we would have accepted back in August.
“We have to try to forget what has gone on in the last four games and get back to basics.
“We’re only quarter of the way through the season, so we’ve got to just keep going.
“For Mike Ashley, if he is going to stay, the big question for him is whether or not Chris is the man to take us forward if we get promotion back to the Premier League.
“That’s a bigger test in the long-term.”
